Forming an Opportunity Belief:
1) Beginning Point:
The belief I have is the Gainesville community likes to go out, but they find lines and lack of choices to be unsatisfactory. Because of the lines I feel there is opportunity for the development of more establishments.
2) The unmet need:
The lack of establishments to meet the needs of the patron population. The students of the University of Florida have a greater need to satisfy, but the alumni and local residents like to go out around town as well. Since the closing of Gator City and other establishments the people who are going out find themselves waiting in longer lines. People want to go out and usually at the same times so the crowds have always been there. People are staying at home longer to pre party or going out to eat earlier. I am 100% sure my opportunity exists.
3) The prototypical customer:
The prototypical customers are the students here in Gainesville, but also the families and the alumni who come to visit.
4) Interviews:
5) I found the alumni perspective interesting because even after only graduating a few years ago much can change. And at the same time, things can stay the same. This alumnus was a commuter student so the nightlife did not fit into her schedule, but she enjoyed going out to eat and felt overcrowding was not a terrible issue back then.
5) This student is not much of a partier, but like the alumnus I spoke to he enjoyed going out to eat. I learned going out to eat at 8 o'clock also means you run the risk of being a part of the party. Now, restaurant-goers find themselves mingling with the bar hoppers. I got the feel that depending on the time one may decided to order to-go and delivery instead of going to sit down and eat.
5) This student enjoys going out and agrees with my belief and Gainesville has potential and the long lines filling out of the same place every night proves my belief. I was surprised to hear going out early to beat the lines is not a desired strategy. Maybe a new system should be put in place where waiting in one lines gains the customer entry to two locations.
7) Summarize:
After conducting my interviews, I feel ninety-five percent of my opportunity still exists. I still believe Gainesville needs to develop more, but I think a solution could be to implement a new crowding system for patrons. Entrepreneurs have to take customer feedback into serious consideration. The customer is always right and an entrepreneur is looking for ways to better their lives. For someone to stand firm to me means that they are choosing not to listen to their target audience. I do not see an idea being successful if the customer’s feedback is not taken into account.
Marcos,
ReplyDeleteThis is a great opportunity belief. I had the privilege to attend all the UF Gator football home games this past season and realized that the establishments in the surrounding area were not resourceful enough for the patrons. The crowds were unreasonable and unbearable. Therefore I left the area to find a less crowed area. I do believe there is an opportunity to create more establishments in that area.
Marcos,
ReplyDeleteI like your idea for this opportunity. I will tell you that I do know that they are building more establishments between the construction on 13th and university ave on the corner and directly behind midtown on 18th and 2nd. I will say as well that people do not like long lines, but the people who run those establishments will hold the line up to make it look busier than it is. Those are just some things to be aware of and I think you could exploit this opportunity more by reflecting on how customers can skip lines, because money is the name of the game at the end of the day. Otherwise I think your opportunity has potential.
Hello Marcos,
ReplyDeletethank you for your post.
There is an overwhelming abundance of people in comparison to fun, and attractive establishments in Gainesville. This results in extremely long lines, and a displeasurable experience for many in the Gainesville community. I most definitley agree with your opportunity, and believe there is a lot of potential in opening new and innovative establishments in Gainesville.
Marcos,
ReplyDeleteYour opportunity belief is very relevant and creative. I agree that in Midtown especially, the lines can take a long time and deter people from going into bars and restaurants. Given that Gainesville has 50,000 college students attending UF alone, there is a large market for nightlife. If a reservation system was in place for bars, then wait time could be reduced. Your opportunity definitely has potential.
I love the idea of implementing a new line or crowd system in some of these places so that the line moves faster. The line is the number one reason why I don't like going out. It takes forever to get to where you want to go, not to mention parking, and once you're there, it takes even longer to get in to that place. Keep up the good work!
ReplyDeleteHello Marcos ! It is good idea for opportunity belief. It is creative and interesting story. I totally agree with Gainesville community likes to go out, but they find lines and lack of choices to be unsatisfactory. In my opinion, it is true that current system is incurred crowd and waste time more. However, new line system will make move faster and solve these problem. Thank you for share !
ReplyDeleteYour opportunity belief is excellent and is something that many people in the Gainesville areas, especially students, would like to fix. I think if Gainesville would build more large plazas with a lot of parking then the crowding in lines may not be as bad. I think that moving establishments that operate later at night and into the morning and designating an area where their specific customers could stand in line could help with the long lines.
